Outdoor Kitchens: Let's Barbeque!

Having a patio or outdoor kitchen has never been more important. Follow these tips when designing outdoor kitchens!

Having a patio or outdoor kitchen has never been more important. Homeowners can utilize outdoor kitchens for grilling and cooking, allowing them to enjoy a nice meal under the stars. A well-designed patio provides the perfect backdrop for socially-distanced gatherings (a must during the COVID-19 pandemic), as well as a refuge for people who want to spend more time outdoors. These outdoor spaces allow family and friends to enjoy each other’s company safely.

Designing Outdoor Kitchens

With the weather having so few cold days and many warm days ahead bringing blossoms to the cherry trees, we think about outdoor cooking and entertaining. Outdoor kitchens and living areas complete any home. Once you have decided on your outdoor kitchen layout, you can begin shopping for your outdoor cooking appliances, cabinets, and seating options. The layout of an outdoor kitchen is similar to an indoor configuration. Choose an area that is not too far from your indoor kitchen. The seating area should not be behind the grill but away from the grill so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors.

Layout Options

L-shaped kitchens are popular as they work well with walls, fences, or dividers that are already in place in your yard and allow more counter space adjacent to the grill. U-shaped kitchens are larger and include a grill, refrigerator, sink, and bar area. They are usually built beneath a cover to provide lighting and fans. Island kitchens bring the grill and all the appliances in one central unit. It provides access on all four sides so that the cook and guests can circulate.

There are all kinds of potential layouts for your outdoor kitchen.

Create Outdoor Kitchens with Everything You Need

Whichever layout you choose, think about the essential work areas such as the prep area, cooking and serving areas, and the entertainment area. Having the same amenities in your outdoor kitchen as found inside your home allows you to cook, host, and relax while enjoying nature. The outdoor kitchen should have what everyone needs without having to run into the house for ingredients, beverages, cutlery, or paper plates. It can be completely outdoors, partially or completely covered.
